Ragnar Lothbrok urged his people, “The world is changing, and we must change with it”. But most of them were unwilling to change with him. He could see the direction the world was heading and saw that Viking raiders and robbers couldn’t last forever. He attempted to assist his people in obtaining rich land for farming and a better life away from the frequent bloodbaths that plagued Scandinavia.
Changing the world is difficult. Ragnar paid the price for being overly ambitious when the world he sought to build crashed with the world he intended to leave behind, crushing him in the process. In Vikings, he was still the smartest figure, and his counsel is ageless.
